enabling desktop composition

When I change the theme for my display, I get an error that says: The visual styles could not be applied. {Desktop composition is disabled} The operation could not be completed because desktop composition is disabled.

I seem to remember something about this in my reading. I'd check your video card - if it's not the equivalent of an nVidia FX5200 with 128 mB of VRAM then that's probably the reason for it.
